Many people cite various problems when it comes to uniforms and say the world would be better without them. This often raises the purpose behind uniforms. Why do we have uniforms? The most fitting answers to this would be – to ensure equality among those who wear them; to give sense of surrounding; and to make people in uniforms discernible according to their trades.
Uniforms make us aware of our surrounding and help us live by a code of conduct as long as we are in them. There uniforms in MBA colleges. How harmful is that? In fact in most of the colleges group ism and rebel attitude is created because of the clothes. Why not give them a code and equalize so that student actually start judging people the way they are and not by the clothes they wear. Moreover it creates a healthy and suitable environment which actually give them a body language and an attitude which helps them.
Talking about the code of conduct that a uniform enfolds, wearing formals in an MBA institute or a workplace gives you a persona which is very much needed in the corporate environment. And why can’t people be enforced to wear uniforms when its essential for the environment they are working in. Also they are not asked to wear space suits, simple suits. Whats wrong in that?
If you leave a bunch of teenagers free to live on whatever clothes they have, then you only invite a competition they will sooner or later get into. This is plain obvious and common. Everyone wants to look good . Clothes help you look good. And further if groupism and differences came from thoughts and opinions it would have been an intellectual society altogether.
And when it comes to studying and working, its not really a question of comfort but the right attitude for work. That is something that a uniform ensures by reminding you that you are still within working hours. Its a necessity. A code which says that here seriousness is more important than how you would want to feel individually today. You have parties and hangouts for comfort. They are all without any uniforms!
The uniform further brings a sense of equality in appearance so that when it comes to distinction, only the person’s work should matter! Uniforms also help in bringing you in the desired character. Will you want a lawyer to dress in jeans and tee’s in a supreme court? Or a doctor in shorts in his clinic? Or your boss dressed casually in board of meeting? Uniforms came in to indulge a sense of responsibility in students and professionals alike when it comes to portraying themselves in a particular environment.
Then same goes for the army people, the navy, the air force and many other trades. The uniforms makes you distinct from other trades, defining you by your respectable profession and making you responsible towards a certain area of work that is to be done dutifully for the society.
Just like a flag is a representative of the nation, similarly at times a uniform is a representative of a particular environment.
